Our Methods of Training

Our goal at Wolf Creek is to teach people how to better enjoy their pets. In order for you to really get all you can out of your dog, and for your dog to have a healthy life, their are several things you need.

  • First your dog needs a good, nutritional dog food to eat in order to maintain a good weight and good health and coat. That is why we carry Blackwood dog food.
  • Secondly most dogs need a job of some sort to do, whether it is given to them by their owners, or they learn it on their own. Most dogs are fairly easy to understand and think that their job is to play and bark at strangers, but some dogs tend to find other things to occupy their time, such as chewing up everything or nipping at people; this is where we come in and replace those habits that the dog has learned with obedience and it gives the dog a purpose and something to do to occupy his/her time.
  • The way we teach a dog obedience is a three step process: we have three things we tell the dog and they are in the forms of praise, motivation, and correction. We use motivation to tell the dog what it is that we want from them and to get the dog to first do the command. Then we use praise to let the dog know they have done something right, and finally we use correction to let the dog know when he is doing something wrong and just not wanting to listen to us at all. Using these three aspects, plus a training collar and a simple leash, we can get dogs to do wonderful things for you.
